The Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund (LC-ARF) in a co-operative effort with local veterinarians has already achieved the spaying or neutering of over 4,800 cats in Lawrence County, which would not have been done otherwise. We now want to pursue feral cat colonies and through a program referred to as Trap Neuter Return (TNR), humanely reduce the nuisance factor caused by such colonies. We altered over 1500 in 2016 alone!!!!!
Please help us achieve our goal, by making a tax deductible donation to LC-ARF. most places we use charge us only $65.00 to spay or neuter a feral cat. It is obvious to anyone who has taken their pets in for veterinary care, that $65.00 does not begin to cover the actual cost. You can help by sponsoring a feral cat to be spayed or neutered by sending a check to LC-ARF.
Trap Neuter Return (TNR) is the most humane way to manage the feral cat population. The feral cats are trapped using humane box traps. The cats are then veterinarian-checked, spayed or neutered, inoculated against rabies, and usually treated for fleas, ear mites, worms, minor bacterial infections and dehydration. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes. Healthy cats, that are too wild too be adopted, are returned to their familiar surroundings under the ongoing care of a responsible caretaker. Cats that are ill or injured, beyond recovery, are not returned to their environment.
TNR is far more successful than the trap-and-kill programs for many reasons:
• It immediately halts the population growth in the colony that has formed around the food source.
• The population of that colony stabilizes, as the sterilized animals prevent the addition of new animals and eventually the colony size decreases over time as the cats die off naturally.
• The nuisance behaviors commonly exhibited by the animals that haven't been spayed or neutered are eliminated when the animals are sterilized.
We at LC-ARF are trying to humanely eliminate the nuisance factor of feral cat colonies, but your financial help is needed. Please send you tax deductible contribution to:
